The British Air Line Pilots’ Association (BALPA) is the national representative body for aviation professional pilots flying with UK airlines. As a specialist organisation we protect and improve the professional status, pay and conditions of our members, now numbering more than 10,000.
The Association is now seeking.....
Scheduling Officer
Background
BALPA is a strong membership driven organisation representing commercial pilots in the UK. A key component of the work we do is to campaign and negotiate to provide more stability over their rosters, to have more influence over their individual lifestyle. This comes at a time when operators are trying to squeeze more out of the pilot workforce by exploiting the capacity of IT-driven rostering systems, but whilst pilots wish to be productive there is a growing feeling that sophisticated systems are being used in very unsophisticated ways.
Opportunity
In support of our aims we are looking to recruit a lifestyle and scheduling officer. This is a new post and, for someone who wants to break away from the monotony of relating the letter of the law and challenging assumptions, together with a fellow scheduling officer, will report to the BALPA Head of Scheduling. The strengthening of this team is reflective of the key importance which BALPA attaches to this area of work.
He/she should have an approachable personality, good communication skills and be able to work effectively as part of various teams either at national level or with the Company Councils where BALPA is recognised. Having substantial experience working in a rostering/crewing department and with specialist knowledge of rostering and crewing systems and the related IT systems this person would have demonstrable expertise and skills to move to the senior roll.
He/she will support the continuous improvement of systems for both planning and day-to-day crewing and support the Head of Scheduling in the development and support of Company Scheduling Agreements
In addition he/she will liaise with BALPA Company Councils and individual members over queries to both general CAP371 rules and Company Scheduling Agreements
He or she will have detailed functional knowledge of:
• at least one of the following systems: Carmen, AIMS, RM, Maestro
• running what-if analysis and system report production and the analysis of data for stability, workload distribution and alternative parameters selection
• manpower planning
• detailed knowledge of CAP371
